Mr. Nshindano also stated that inmates will be registered in the fourth and final phase of the registration exercise which runs from the 9th to the 11th of December 2020 and that the registration process will be done in polling centers near the correctional facilities for logistical reasons.
He further disclosed that two people have been arrested for multiple registration as voters which is an offence and the two will be prosecuted according to the law. He has since advised members of the public to desist from engaging in any form of mal practice to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
The Chief Electoral Officer further disclosed that K527 million from the K674 million total budget for the registration exercise has been released so far with a K147 million balance yet to be released. He further says that due to the addition of man power to beef up selected centers across the country, a supplementary budget of K250 million was presented to government and is yet to be released.
Mr Nshindano also said that currently, there are no plans to extend the voter registration process and only after the conclusion of the process and a review has been done can the consideration of an extension be made.
