A summary of Vice President Inonge Wina’s question and answer session in parliament today the 27th of November 2020.
MUFUMBWE MP – ELLIOT KAMONDO
Mufumbwe constituency Member of Parliament Elliot Kamondo has bemoaned the failure of ECZ to carry out a smooth voter registration process.
The MP asked the vice president if there is consideration to increase the number of registration days from 30 t0 60 in light of the many challenges being faced by the electoral body in the current voter registration process.
In her response, the Vice President said an extension can only be based on the outcome of the 30 days period. she said consideration will be made depending on the number people registered in the 30 days.
CHIKANKATA MP – KABWE MWIINGA
Chikankata constituency Member of Parliament Kabwe Mwiinga asked the Vice President how far the government has gone in recovering the money from the ministers who were found to have illegally stayed in office after the dissolution of parliament in 2016 considering that it was a court ruling and less than a year is remaining to the general elections. In her response, the Vice President said the matter was responded to earlier when a similar question was asked two weeks ago.
CHIFUBU MP – FRANK N’GAMBI
Chifubu Member of Parliament Frank N’gambi asked the Vice President to explain if the Kafue Gorge lower power project will help address the current load shading in in Zambia.
In her response, the Vice President said demand for electricity was high and that Zambia has a current power deficit of 810 megawatts. She said a number of projects on power plants where on going and one of them is the Kafue Gorge lower power plant
She said the power plant will add 300 megawatts by the end of 2020, and that when other plants are concluded, 450 megawatts will be added in 2021 which will contribute greatly to reducing load shading.
GWEMBE MP – MALUNGO CHISANGANO
Gwembe Member of Parliament Malungo Chisangano asked the vice president what progress has been made so far in the exploration of oil reserves in Gwembe district following the discovery of oil deposits in the area.
In her response, the Vice President said the exploration is still on going and takes a long time to complete. she further assured the MP that the nation will be informed once the process concludes.
MONZE CENTRAL MP – JACK MWIMBU
Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwimbu asked the Vice President if ECZ will meet the registration of voters target within the set timeframe and if she was aware that for the last 3 days, registration officers have not been working because passwords for the registration machines have expired?
In her response, the Vice President said that government was not aware of the expired passwords.
CHILANGA CONSTITUENCY MP – MARIA LANGA
Chilanga Member of Parliament Maria Langa asked the vice president when Chilanga will have a district hospital as it has been a district for 8 years now.
In her response, the Vice President said that all new districts will have hospitals. she said some projects have been halted due to non-availability of funds and the Chilanga district hospital is one of them. she further said that Chilanga district hospital will be constructed once funds are available.
