Bloggers of Zambia is an independent, not-for- profit enterprise working around the following themes; Internet Governance (digital rights, internet law and policy), Press Freedom, Civic Tech, Media and Information Literacy.

Competencies and capabilities

Since 2017 when we started our work, Bloggers of Zambia has:

  1. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the relevant local, regional and global ICT policy and legal frameworks and prevailing/ emerging digital rights issues.
  2. Established relationships with numerous CSOs, lawyers, academia, technical community, activists, media, journalists, bloggers, and private sector players in Zambia.
  3. Established relationships and partnerships with various government ministries and agencies in Zambia- Ministry Information and Broadcasting Services, Ministry of Justice, Judiciary and Ministry of Transport and Communications.
  4. Competencies in project management, communications and creative content production.
  5. Profound experience in providing digital rights capacity programmes to CSOs, journalists, bloggers, artists etc.
  6. Excellent communications and technical writing skills with abilities to draft and design research reports, policy documents etc.
  7. Experience in delivering digital literacy and safety training to at risk and marginalized groups such as women and girls, artists, bloggers, journalists etc.

The following is a list of our achievements and key events

Bloggers of Zambia has become a leader and convenor on digital rights and internet law and policy advocacy in Zambia and the region, and the organisation is regarded as the first port of call for internet governance matters.

Bloggers of Zambia has partnered with other local, regional global organisations to take up new and existing internet freedom projects in their programming e.g. National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Swedish Institute- Creative Force, Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA), Collaboration on Internet Law and Policy in Eastern and Southern Africa (CIPESA), Paradigm Initiative (PIN), Chapter One Foundation (CoF), PANOS Institute Southern Africa, GIZ, German Embassy, Counterpart International, USAID Internews etc.

Since 2019, Bloggers of Zambia has been implementing a project called ‘Strengthening Police-Media Relations for the Safety and Security of Journalists in Zambia under our project cluster on Media Rights and Freedoms. Bloggers of Zambia, with support from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the German Embassy in Lusaka, have partnered with Zambia Police Service Command to implement joint provincial police-media dialogue forums to enhance the safety and security of journalists. The project also hosts provincial training in good conduct journalism conduct and ethical reporting which is being done in partnership with provincial press clubs in Zambia.

Bloggers of Zambia’s policy-maker focused advocacy initiatives contributed to the passing of a resolution by the Cabinet of Zambia to ratify the AU Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection and Privacy (Malabo Convention). In addition, the approval of the National Cybersecurity Policy.

Bloggers of Zambia has an established relationship with the National Assembly of Zambia who now recognises the organisation’s input and requests submissions on various media and ICT matters e.g. implementation of e-government in Zambia, ratification of AU Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection and Privacy, Investigative Journalism in Zambia etc.

Bloggers of Zambia initiated and conducts awareness raising and practical capacity building programmes on digital rights and internet law and policy to various stakeholders in Zambia and beyond targeted at CSOs and lawyers, policymakers, lawmakers, media, bloggers, journalists, human rights defenders etc.

Bloggers of Zambia conducts digital rights and internet law and policy capacity building of Bloggers of Zambia became a leader on the production and dissemination of creative online content.
