01.Bloggers of Zambia CheckDesk with Code for Africa (Africa Fact Checking Alliance)

Bloggers of Zambia is a chapter under the African Fact-Checking Alliance (AFCA) with Code for Africa. The objective of this innovation is to conduct fact-checking or forensic network analysis using open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques on issues of public interest in Zambia.

The Bloggers of Zambia CheckDesk is conducts regular fact-checking and verification activities using data-driven analysis and reportage using digital interactives as part of the storytelling approach.

02.Safecity Lusaka

Safecity/Google app/Apple app is an initiative committed to creating safer communities for everyone. Our goal is to empower citizens by helping them understand the potential risks they could face in different neighbourhoods. Safecity collects real experiences anonymously and provides real time statistics of crime hotspots. There are Safecity Chapters across the world including in Lusaka, Zambia. The Safecity Platform provides a platform for people to report incidents of sexual violence anonymously and in a safe manner. Each incident is personal and gives users of the platform the chance to report what happened without judgement. Through the reports, researchers and platform users are able to determine crime hotspots. The data collected provides an insight into crime in the city.

03.Fighting misinformation and promoting democracy in Zambia:

This was a partnership project with PANOS Institute Southern Africa and the support of Open Society Initiative, the project ran from November 2020 to June 2021 and sought to debunk misinformation through the development and deployment of verified and accurate information, build the capacity of interlocutors such as the media, bloggers, and artistes to verify and disseminate accurate information on COVID-19 and democratic processes as well as build a movement of citizens and information actors to share and promote the use of verified and accurate information on COVID-19 and democratic spaces in Zambia.

04.Assisted Journalism (Journalism X)

This is a digital platform for newsroom collaboration on fact-checking in Zambia. The project leverages digitals, including AI counter fake news, disinformation and other forms of harmful online content to promote democracy. The online prototype platform is for media houses and journalists to collaborate and showcase their findings on investigative and other articles on fake news. The platform gives fact-checked data on trending news and stories that are potentially fake. This is also a platform for civil society organisations and policy makers to get access to verified data and information.

05.Livestreaming and Digital Services

Bloggers of Zambia offers cutting-edge livestreaming and digital services in photography and videography for civil society organisations, profit making businesses and influencers.
