Press freedom is a freedom of expression issue. Freedom of expression is the cornerstone of democracy. Therefore, an open, free, safe and supportive operating environment for journalists is crucial for realizing meaning access to information that is fact-checked and verified and this information is important for citizens to adequately participate in public discourse and expand on democracy.
Bloggers of Zambia promotes safety and security of journalists and independent media regulation under this thematic area of work.
Our Press Freedom Projects
Strengthening Police-Media Relations for the safety and security of journalists in Zambia
Supported by the German Federal Foreign Ministry through the German Embassy in Lusaka, this project aims to strengthen relations between the police and journalists to enhance journalists' safety and security in Zambia. Through joint provincial dialogue forums, it fosters meaningful discussions to address longstanding challenges that hinder journalists' work due to law enforcement practices.
World Press Freedom Day
Between 2022 and 2024, Bloggers of Zambia served as the secretariat for the local organizing committee of World Press Freedom Day, convened by the Media Liaison Committee (MLC). This annual commemoration highlights challenges affecting journalists, advocates for freedom of expression and access to information, and promotes the safety of journalists—an increasingly critical issue both globally and in Zambia.
