As Zambia envisages to be a technology hub and champion a digital transformation agenda for empowerment of citizens, we wish to contribute to it with our newly launched digital hub in Lusaka, Zambia.
With support from USAID Zambia through Internews Network Zambia, Fhi360 and our partners Panos Institute Southern Africa (PSAf) and Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia, we launched our digital Hub on Wednesday, 4th May 2022.
Our digital hub space will be used to enhance content management, media and information literacy, digital literacy, data journalism, investigative journalism, fact-checking, verification strategies, gender sensitive reporting and safety and security of journalists.
It is a space where women, girls and creators can learn how to leverage online tools for digital advocacy, artists for democracy, freedom of expression in artistic work and digital activism. The digital hub will help address the gender digital divide by providing access for all.
The launch was attended by the Ministry of Media and Information Permanent Secretary, Kennedy Kalunga on behalf of the Minister of Media and Information, USAID representative – Nina Bowen, ZNBC Director General – Malolela Lusambo, Internews Zambia Chief of Party – Teldah Mawarire, Civil Society leaders, Media organization directors and personnel, students and directors.
We hope to contribute to strengthening of Zambia’s Democracy, Social and Economic activities. The digital hub will benefit all by improving digital security and safety, digital access for journalists, civil society, bloggers, freelancers, lawyers, human rights defenders and activists.
It is important that we create spaces for every citizen to participate in governance processes, especially digital interaction under humanitarian challenges such as the COVID-19.
