‘Leveraging Freedom of Expression to Strengthen Democracy in Zambia’, a panel discussion that was curated on January 24, 2023 supported by National Endowment for Democracy.
“Freedom of expression is a requirement for a functional democracy. This activity is meant to raise awareness and also inform and educate Zambians on the provisions and legitimate limitations on the right to freedom of expression based on local and international norms and standards,” highlighted the Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Information and Media – Zambia, Mr. Kennedy Kalunga during his keynote speech at the Panel

Freedom of expression is the cornerstone of democracy and is guaranteed in the Zambian Constitution. Free expression is a prerequisite for democracy.
We therefore hosted some experts in the space to dissect the different aspects of free expression such as legal Provisions, legitimate limitations and a panel to share their experience with leveraging free expression to strengthen democracy.
Ms. Linda Kasonde, Executive Director at Chapter One Foundation delivered a keynote presentation on Legal
Provisions, Legitimate Limitations and Strategies To Protect Against Excesses. Panelists were Dr Basil Hamusokwe from the University of Zambia, Adora Nyirenda from ZAMWA – Zambia Media Women Association and
