As the world marks Safer Internet Day on February 6, 2024, Bloggers of
Zambia would like to make a clarion call for enhanced safer Internet usage as a tool for deepening
democracy.
Zambia joins the global community in advocating for a safer, open, resilient and inclusive online
experience for all citizens. This year’s theme, “Together for a Better Internet,” resonates deeply
with the commitment of the Zambian government and various stakeholders to ensure a secure
digital environment for individuals, families, and businesses.
The significance of Safer Internet Day in the Zambian context should not be under-estimated
because the digital landscape continues to play an increasingly integral role in our daily lives.
Therefore, it is our collective responsibility to harness the potential of the Internet while
safeguarding the well-being of all users. Safer Internet Day provides a platform for all citizens to
reinforce our commitment to online safety and empower Zambians with the tools they need
to navigate the digital world securely.
To commemorate Safer Internet Day 2024, Bloggers of Zambia has organized events, including a
hackathon by University students on online safety, and online creative content for education and
awareness across the country. These initiatives aim to educate individuals of all ages on the
importance of online safety, responsible digital behaviour and the protection of personal
information. The goal is to equip Zambians with the knowledge and skills needed to protect
themselves and their communities from online threats.
We would like to encourage individuals, schools, businesses, community organizations and all
Zambians to promote Internet safety best practices. By engaging in conversations, sharing
resources, and fostering a culture of responsible digital citizenship, we can collectively build a
safer and more secure digital future for all Zambians.
